Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 5: Coolest Smart Watch
Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 5: Coolest Smart Watch
The Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 5 - which we thought would be
called the Mi Band 5 within the sort of its predecessors until it had been
launched - is that the successor to the Mi Band 4, an inexpensive fitness
tracker from mid-2019 that impressed us with a variety of features that you
simply definitely can't guarantee are going to be available on other trackers
with a coffee tag.
After being launched in China earlier within the year, the
Mi Smart Band 5 has been confirmed to be coming to countries across the world
starting July 16. Its price in many of these regions hasn't been announced
though, so we'll need to wait until the Mi Smart Band 5 release date to
understand that.
You'll find everything there's to understand about the
Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 5 below, including information on the discharge date and
its likely low, low price.
The Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 5 within the west features a few
features we've not seen before in Xiaomi fitness trackers, also as a couple of
tricks the Chinese version did not have , so this is often certainly one to
observe and we'll confirm to check it out soon.
Cut To The Chase
- What is it? The most recent budget fitness tracker from Xiaomi
- When is it out? You’ll pip out from July 16
- How much will it cost? Around $45 / £35 / AU$65
- Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 5 release date and price
The Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 5 was announced on June 11 in China
then globally on July 15, putting its reveal almost exactly a year after the
launch of the Xiaomi Mi Band 4.
As for when you'll actually be ready to pip out though, the
official Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 5 release date is July 16, so you will be ready
to pick it up online from then.
Xiaomi has yet to reveal the worth in most regions though,
so we only know the ecu cost. That's €39.99 (about $45 / £35 / AU$65), so it's
fairly affordable, although there's an early-bird deal saving you a touch which
might be replicated in other regions.
We haven't heard of a US or Australian release, but given
Xiaomi doesn't always bring its products to either, we will not say either way
needless to say.
For reference, the Xiaomi Mi Band 4 cost $39.99 / £34.99 /
AU$59 at launch, therefore the Mi Band 5 may need an identical tag.
Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 5 Design and Screen
The Xiaomi Mi Band 5 features a similar design to the Xiaomi
Mi Band 4, with an oblong-shaped tracker set into a colourful strap.
The body is 47.2 x 18.5 x 12.4mm and either 11.9g for the
quality model or 12.1g for the version with NFC.
The strap meanwhile is out there during a range of colours ,
including some dual-color options and ones that match certain branded animated
watch faces that you simply can access, like ones for SpongeBob SquarePants,
Neon Genesis Evangelion, and Hatsune Miku.
Speaking of the watch faces, there are over 100 of them altogether,
and they are displayed on the Mi Band 5's 1.1-inch 126 x 294 color AMOLED
screen. That's up from a 0.95-inch screen on the Mi Band 4, supplying you with
20% more room to play with.
The screen can reach up to 450 units of brightness (up from
400 on the Mi Band 4) and like its predecessor there is a button below the
screen, also because the display itself being a touchscreen. That button
primarily functions to awaken the wearable, or return to the previous screen.
Xiaomi Mi Band 5 Battery and Specs
The Xiaomi Mi Band 5 features a 125mAh battery which Xiaomi
claims can last for up to 14 days between charges. That's notably but the 20
days of claimed life for the Mi Band 4, but Xiaomi's previous band really did
live up to those claims, so 14 days here is probably going.
A full charge should take around two hours, and Xiaomi has
changed the charging method, choosing a magnetic dock instead of a charging
cradle. This suggests you do not have to take the strap off the tracker to
charge it, and will generally be a slicker solution.
As for specs, the Mi Band 5 has an apparently faster chipset
than its predecessor, along side NFC (in some models), Bluetooth 5.0, 16MB of
storage, and 512KB of RAM (so a smartwatch this is often not). There's also a
barometer (for gauging atmospheric pressure).
Xiaomi Mi Band 5 Fitness and Features
While the Xiaomi Mi Band 5 has some smart features, its
focus is certainly fitness. thereto end it's water-resistant to depths of fifty
meters (so you'll take it swimming), it's 11 sport-tracking modes (such as
running, cycling, yoga and pool swimming), and it's a pulse monitor, which will
keep tabs on your pulse 24 hours each day .
The Mi Band 5 also has sleep tracking, and in contrast to
its predecessor it can track how long you spend in paradoxical sleep (as well
as light and deep).
There's a step tracker too, plus reminders to maneuver when
you have been sat still too long, breathing exercises, cycle tracking, and a
PAI (Personal Activity Intelligence) score, which provides you an overall
rating for your level of activity across the day - letting you see at a look
whether you have been active enough.
The Only Big Fitness Feature That's Not Present Here is GPS.
Moving faraway from fitness, contactless payments are
supported by the model with NFC (though we're unsure if this may make it out of
China, because it didn't with the Mi Band 4).
There's also the power to link the Xiaomi Mi Band 5 to your
phone, so you will get notification alerts on your wrist. You’ll also use the
Mi Band 5 as a foreign camera shutter for your smartphone.
